When lakes, streams, rivers, oceans and other bodies of water were contaminated by toxic substances the quality of water will weaken and it will greatly affects the aquatic ecosystems. It could wipe out aquatic life and lessen its ability to reproduce. Noxious wastes can also penetrate and will damage the groundwater deposits and definitely be hazardous to human life.

There are different sources of water pollution and one of the most damaging are the city sewage and industrial waste released into the rivers. These water pollutants leach down the groundwater, rivers and other water bodies.

Water discarded from households which are also known as domestic or sanitary sewage contains varieties of liquefied and suspended pollutions. These contain impurities of organic materials from vegetables and food wastes. Plant nutrients are produced from detergent powders, chemical soaps, and other substances used in cleaning our house. Domestic water wastes also contain pathogens and its disposal is a major technical problem.

Another major water pollutant is the agricultural run-off or the water from the fields that contains fertilizers and pesticides that passes through the rivers. Exhaustive use of these chemicals greatly affects the quality of groundwater.

It seems people do not know the effect of dumping their garbage like cans, plastics, bottles and other household products into rivers, lakes and seas. Water pollution will not only have a disturbing effect to people but also to plants and animals, fish and birds. People cannot evade the disastrous effect of water pollution. But by proper waste segregation and management practices, we can help minimize the amount of trash generated in every household.
