Aquifer is an underground bed or layer of water-bearing porous rock or stone and unconsolidated materials like earth, sand, and gravel from which groundwater is beneficially taken out by means of water well.  Aquifers can come about at various depths.  When they are nearer to the surface they can be used for water supply and irrigation and can also be replenishing by the local rainfall.  Most desert spots have mountains and limestone hills near them that can subjugated as groundwater resources.  There are some places that have low aquifers that are exploited for their water.
